It was distilled in 1965 and bottled in 2016 from an ex-Sherry Hogshead, which just only produced 63 bottles. The whisky is presented in a unique glass decanter which is individually numbered. Matured in a refill Sherry hogshead, this expertly aged Speyside was filled at one of the regions foremost distilleries. The nose of this light mahogany coloured single malt is full and rich. Mature oak notes, layered with hints of rum and raisin, open into aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and subtle marzipan. Indulging in a small sip this exceptional whisky reveals freshly backed gingerbread and warming cinnamon with bitter orange marmalade highlights. The addition of a small drop of clear spring water brings nuances of autumnal forest fruits and sweet pipe tobacco to the fore. The palate is sweet – reminiscent of a crème brulee topped by mulled fruits – with a charming liquorice finish. |
