| Glenglssaugh Distillery is a forgotten gem on the Moray Firth coast of Scotland. It lay silent from 1986 until 2008, when following a change in ownership and refurbishment production was re-started in December of that year. A small number of casks had been left maturing in the warehouses during this silent period and this exclusive pack is the result of a careful selection from 3 of these casks. Triple pack of 20 cl bottles, the 26 years old at 46%, the 37 years old at 54.8% and the 43 years old at 48.7%. Tasting Notes~ ￭ 26 year old Colour: Rich Bronze. Nose: Rich sherry aromas, eucalyptus and cedar followed by a boiled fruit medley, too complex to break down. Palate: Rich dried fruit dominates but he boiled fruits appear in mid palate with hints of vanilla, spices and salt denoting the maritime environment. Finish: A long finish follows where the dried fruits and fresh fruit complement each other. ￭ 37 year old Colour: Bright gold, with copper highlights. Nose: Lots of creamy pastry, lemon meringue pie and lemon vanilla slice. A hint of watermelon, becoming very floral with wild flowers and barley sugars. Palate: A delightfully sweet and powerful whisky that is reminiscent of wedding cake. A rich and sophisticated dram that is still fresh and fruity with hints if melon and lychees. Finish: Lengthy, complex and showing great evolution. ￭ 43 year old Colour: Old gold. Nose: A strong powerful nose beginning with the aroma of green apples, giving way to a medley of boiled fruit sweet. Despite its complexity, hints of raspberries, blackberries and ripe banana emerge. Finally the refined sherry notes of sultanas, fruit cake and rich creamy fudge take over. Palate: The rich sherry flavours combine with the boiled fruits to give an incredibly powerful yet complex whisky. Finish: A long and consistent finish leaves the freshness of the Granny Smith apples on the palate. |
