TTL OMAR 2016 lychee liqueur barrel finished Bottling Note~ These whiskies hailing from Taiwan were distilled at the Nantou distillery who use stills made by Forsyths of Rothes, Speyside to ensure the quality of their spirit. TTL stands for Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation. Lychee Cask: Cask Type: Finished in a Lychee Liqueur Barrel Bottle Number: One of 700 bottles released Cask Num : 21090057 / 21090072 / 21090103 Tasting Note~ A giant state-owned behemoth. Surprisingly though, they are quite experimental in their whisky making. As I was walking to the bar one day, Lychee, if you haven’t already known, is a very fruit native to Asia with an extremely floral aroma. Likewise, for the Japanese Hibiki which is aged in umeshu or plum liqueur barrels, OMAR was aged in lychee liqueur barrels. Taste-wise, upfront sweetness, nice floral undertones and that unmistakable lychee flavor. Thoughts: This has very solid flavors and a good intensity. I really like the nose on this one. Also, the grassy/herbal note reminds of flavours find in a Longmorn. The tea biscuit note is a nice touch. Admittedly there’s not much of a “wow” factor here, but that’s fine. This one’s well done in a straightforward way. Better than the Omar Original, I think, with more clarity of flavours and a better oak influence. Recommended. |
