| KILCHOMAN MACHIR BAY Bottle Description~ Beginning production in December 2005, this miniscule operation (one of Scotland’s smallest) is the first distillery to be built on Islay for over 120 years. 'Machir Bay' is the first general release from this upstart and is a vatting of 3, 4 and 5 year old whiskies, matured in fresh bourbon barrels and finished in oloroso sherry butts for 8 weeks. Anthony Wills, Managing Director of Kilchoman adds “Machir Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches on Islay, close to the distillery. This expression will give continuity of supply to customers around the world. Each year we will add more mature malt to the vatting.” The house style tends towards a sweet, fruity and smoky malt. Tasting note~ Color: Pale straw Nose:Powerful opening peat, brine and white pepper, hints of ripe citrus peel, fruit, nut, chocolate ,typically complex. Palate:The palate is drier than the nose, excellent concentration and lively spices. Citrus peel and dried fruit compete with lanolin and brine. Terrific balance. Finish: Mid Long, fresh, tangy, mildly peppery with a subtle kipper aftertaste. |
