| BenRiach 19 years Sherry Butt Bottling Note~ Rather unjustly, Benriach was, until just a few years ago, relatively unknown, but it hasn’t ceased to make up for lost time. Indeed, this distillery has, for many decades, had a huge amount to offer and has proven this time and time again since being bought in 2004. Its warehouses are bursting with all sorts of sherry butts (Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, etc.), new American oak casks, ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads dating back to the 1960s, as well as casks previously used for wine, rum, madeira, port and even Rioja! This Speyside single malt is entirely worthy of the interest it has garnered from master blenders since its creation. Limited 1995 Release~ Cask No. 15904 Aged: 19 years Date of Bottling: Mar/2014 Cask Type: Refill Sherry Butt Tasting Note~ Color: Gold Nose:this one starts concentrated, powerful, assertive… Beautifully peaty behind the coffee and the praline. notes of smoked tea a.The sherry’s dry and complements the peat quite perfectly – it’s almost like peppered bitter chocolate like they make in Spain. Just a bit of wildness (wild mushrooms, moss, fern) aroma. Palate: a sweet and powerful attack on kumquats, with a growing bitterness (propolis, chlorophyll) and quite some oak. Very pleasant if you like that style. ‘Good’ rubber, strong un-sugared tea, bitter chocolate again. Finish: Huge concentrated – acceptable, neat and long balance finish. A little extreme but well made. Exclusively selected and bottled for Taiwan. |
