| Glenglassaugh 1968 45 years Cask No.1601 Sherry Hogshead Bottling Note~ Part of the first batch of Rare Cask Releases from Glenglassaugh comes this 1968 vintage single malt Scotch whisky which spent a massive 45 years ageing, including a finishing period in a Sherry hogshead. It was distilled in May 1968 and bottled in February 2014 with an outturn of 349 bottles. Tasting Note~ Color: Dark amber. Nose:It’s a ‘darker’, more chocolaty and more prune-y version of the 1972. A tad earthier as well, and a little more coffee-ish. Other than that, there’s almost as much honey, PX, and even sandalwood. Palate: Very lovely honey sauce, the pipe tobacco, the dried figs and prunes and dates and even bananas, the oak making it a little drying note. Cinnamon cake plus ground coffee plus strong tea. A feeling of walnut stain of dried porcinis, and more coffee beans and bitter chocolate. Finish: medium, dry, and a little drying. More bitter chocolate and coffee. Remain fair and balanced |
