| Caol Ila 25 years (43%) Bottling Note~ 25 year old malt from Islay's most prolific distillery - Caol Ila. Sweet Smooth, and very 'sherbet-lemony'. Only a hint of Smoke, and just superb. Caol Ila(Gaelic for 'the Sound of Islay') is situated on the north eastern shores of the island, with magnificent views across the Sound to the spectacular Paps of Jura. Despite being the largest distillery on Islay (in terms of production anyway) bottlings of Caol Ila as a single malt are not always easy to find. It nearly all ends up in blends. Frequently passed over, it presents a gentler, more feminine and food friendly expression of Islay that Ardbeg lovers should get to know. Caol Ila 25-year-old follows limited editions (6,000 bottles). Tasting Note~ Color:Deep gold / brassy color. Nose:The nose is fresh and fruity, with sticking plasters, brine, bonfire smoke and a hint of new leather. Palate:Relatively sweet on the palate, with more fruit notes, plus wood smoke, pepper and some oak. Finish:The finish dries steadily, with mild smokiness. |
