| Port Ellen 35YO 1978 Bottling Note~ A Hunter Laing bottling of single malt Scotch whisky from one of the most renowned closed distilleries in Scotland - Port Ellen. Distilled at the Islay distillery in September 1978 and aged in a refill butt until October 2013, when it was bottled at 35 years old with an outturn of 231 bottles. Part of Hunter Laing's Old & Rare Platinum range, and this one certainly lives up to that lofty title. Tasting Note~ Nose: Rich with earthy peat and great wafts of coastal air. Palate: Sweetness comes through with honey and pleasing peat. A glorious mouth feel. Finish: Very long and rich with that sweet, rich peat and thick honey. Overall: Port Ellen continues to impress, even while closed still (sadly). |
