Caol Ila 30 Year Old 1983 Bottling Note~ Sure to be a favourite of the 2014 Special Releases this is a 30 year old Caol Ila single malt, distilled in 1983 and matured in a mix of refill American and European oak casks. 7,638 bottles were produced. Tasting Note~ Nose: Huge. Medicinal Germolene leaps out at first, followed by melon, candy sticks, nuts and cream. Rice pudding too, perhaps with a little jam, then into pleasing sootiness. Palate: More menthol, melon, mango, rough leather, sourdough and a smokiness that builds before taking centre stage on the tail. Finish: Long with a touch more soot and plenty of smoke, impressive at this age. Overall: Pretty stunning. There are elements of some great Port Ellens in here. |
